'We don't make a photograph just with a camera; we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard, the people we have loved.'
Ansel Adams

from friend

When someone else wrong us it has something to do with them and nothing to do with us. Perhaps the frustrated friend is carrying a heavy burden too hard to bear and his soul is crying for help.

When you forgive and forget you free 100% of your energy for constructive endevour.

Every encounter (positive or negative) is an opportunity to learn. Look beyond the messenger for message.

Jorge Borges

If I had my life to live over, I'd try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax, I would limber up, I would be crazier than I've been on this trip. I know very few things I'd take seriously anymore. I'd certainly be less hygenic . . . I would take more chances, I would take more trips, I would scale more mountains, I would swim more rivers, and I would watch more sunsets. I would eat more ice cream and fewer beans. I would have more actual trouble and fewer imaginary ones. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd have many more of them, in fact I'd try not to have anything else, just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of my day. If I had it to do all over again, I'd travel lighter, much lighter that I have. I would start barefoot earlier in the spring, and I'd stay that way later in the fall. And I would ride more merry-go-rounds, and catch more gold rings, and greet more people and pick more flowers and dance more often. If I had it to do all over again- but you see, I don't.

-- Jorge Luis Borges (Argentine writer, poet and philosopher

Capitalism or Socialism?

Winston Churchil once wrote:
"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of missery."

Having lived under both systems I fully agree.

Election time in Canada

Here we go again!

We are going to be treated to an unproductive replay of all of the cliches of Canadian anti-Americanism, one of this country's most threadbare and tiresome ideologies.

From my good friend Ivan

"Believe, no pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit."
